Helen FlockhartAs is often the case in my paintings, the figures in my imagined landscape inhabit the same space but do not interact. There is a sense of yearning, of apparent beauty being prey to corruption. The process of creating the work is a journey of discovery where something normally hidden may surface and the unexpected may unfold. Rather than beginning with an idea which I would go on to illustrate, it is through the intuitive process of making the work that I come to understand.
