Shed is one of a series of works relating to the sudden death of my husband four years ago. My practice includes poetry as well as visual art, which feed into each other. At the same time as the painting I wrote a poem, also called Shed, using the tritina form where three keywords are repeated at the ends of lines. I view poetry, particularly that which follows specific formal constraints, as an 'instrument of discovery' as the inventor of the tritina, Marie Ponsot, described it. Writing helps me dig deeper into my subject matter, painting expresses things that can't be put into words.
